How to connect USB Type-C devices to ClonerAlliance UHD Halo?¶
The ClonerAlliance UHD Halo supports recording from USB Type-C devices using the DP (DisplayPort) Alt Mode protocol. This article explains how to connect smartphones, tablets, and laptops.
Prerequisites¶
The Type-C device must support DP Alt Mode (video output over USB Type-C).
Use the included Type-C to Type-C cable (recommended) or the Type-C to USB-A 3.0 cable.
Connecting a Smartphone¶
Android Smartphones
Connect the smartphone to the UHD Halo Type-C port using the Type-C to Type-C cable.
Enable DP Alt Mode or Desktop Mode on your phone. The exact setting varies by manufacturer — check your phone’s settings under “Display” or “USB”.
Once the DP signal is detected, the top HALO ring LED on the UHD Halo will turn blue.
iPhone
Connect the iPhone to the UHD Halo Type-C port using the Type-C to Type-C cable.
No additional settings are required — the iPhone will automatically output video via DP Alt Mode.
The top HALO ring LED will turn blue once the signal is detected.
Connecting a Laptop¶
Ensure the laptop’s Type-C port supports DP Alt Mode (video output). Check the laptop’s specifications if unsure.

The laptop may prompt you to select the output mode — choose video output or DisplayPort.

65W Power Delivery Charging¶
When a Type-C device is connected, the UHD Halo can simultaneously charge the device at up to 65W via USB PD, while recording its screen. This is especially useful for long recording sessions on smartphones or tablets.
Note
To enable 65W charging, ensure the included 65W PD power adapter is connected to the UHD Halo.
