Why Can’t RecDual Dongle Charge My Phone?

If your phone is not charging while connected to RecDual Dongle, this guide explains the common causes and solutions.

Understanding the Charging Mechanism

RecDual Dongle’s Type-C PWR port:

  • Supports USB PD (Power Delivery) protocol

  • Maximum power: 66W

  • Does NOT support QC (Quick Charge) protocol

For charging to work, your phone must support PD protocol, not just any fast charging.

Common Cause: Protocol Incompatibility

The Issue:

RecDual Dongle PWR port only supports PD protocol.

If your phone uses:

  • QC (Quick Charge) only → Will NOT charge

  • USB PD → Will charge

  • Both PD and QC → Will charge via PD

Affected Devices:

Some older or budget smartphones only support QC fast charging without PD support. These devices may not charge through RecDual Dongle.

Checking Your Device

PD-Compatible Devices (Will Charge):

  • iPhone 15 and newer (all Type-C models)

  • Samsung Galaxy S21 and newer

  • Google Pixel 6 and newer

  • Most recent flagship phones

Potentially Incompatible:

  • Older phones with QC-only charging

  • Some budget smartphones

  • Some regional phone variants

How to Check:

  1. Look up your phone’s specifications

  2. Search for “USB PD” or “Power Delivery” support

  3. Check manufacturer’s charging specifications

Troubleshooting Steps

Step 1: Verify Power Adapter

Ensure your power adapter supports PD:

  • Use a USB-C PD adapter

  • Apple USB-C adapters support PD

  • Many laptop chargers support PD

  • Check adapter for “PD” marking

Step 2: Check Connections

  1. Power adapter → Type-C PWR port

  2. Phone → Type-C DP IN port

  3. All cables securely connected

Step 3: Try a Different Adapter

  • Use a known PD-compatible adapter

  • Try 45W or 65W PD adapters

  • Apple or Samsung official chargers work well

Step 4: Verify Phone PD Support

If using a QC-only phone:

  • Charging through RecDual Dongle is not possible

  • Use alternative charging method

Alternative Solutions

If your phone doesn’t support PD:

Option 1: Charge Separately

  • Record without charging through RecDual Dongle

  • Charge phone with its original charger when not recording

Option 2: Use a PD-Compatible Device

  • Most modern phones support PD

  • Consider upgrading if frequent recording is needed

Option 3: Monitor Battery

  • Start recording with full battery

  • Take breaks to charge when needed

What Should Work

Correctly working setup:

  • Phone supports USB PD

  • PD adapter connected to Type-C PWR

  • Phone connected to Type-C DP IN

  • Charging indicator shows on phone

Expected behavior:

  • Phone charges while recording

  • Charging speed depends on phone’s maximum PD rate

  • Some heat during use is normal
