Why can’t RecDual Link App detect my device?¶
If RecDual Link App cannot detect your RecDual Dongle, follow this troubleshooting guide to resolve the issue.
Quick Checklist¶
Before detailed troubleshooting, verify these basics:
[ ] RecDual Dongle is not recording (stop any active recording)
[ ] USB cable is a data cable (not charging-only)
[ ] Cable is firmly connected at both ends
[ ] OTG is enabled (Android)
[ ] Storage permissions are granted to the app
Common Causes and Solutions¶
1. Device is Currently Recording
When RecDual Dongle is actively recording, it cannot be recognized as external storage.
Solution:
Press the REC/STOP button to stop recording
Wait for the LED to stop blinking
Try connecting again
2. OTG Not Enabled (Android)
Many Android phones require OTG (USB On-The-Go) to be manually enabled.
Solution:
Go to Settings > Connected devices (or Connections)
Find OTG or USB OTG option
Toggle it ON
Reconnect your RecDual Dongle
Note
Some phones enable OTG automatically. If you don’t see an OTG option, your phone may not require manual enabling.
3. Wrong USB Cable
Charging-only cables don’t support data transfer.
Solution:
Use the USB-C cable included with RecDual Dongle
Or use any cable known to support data transfer
Test the cable with another device if unsure
4. Storage Permissions Not Granted
The app needs storage access to communicate with your device.
Solution (Android):
Go to Settings > Apps > RecDual Link
Tap Permissions
Enable Storage or Files and media
Restart the app
For detailed steps, see How to grant storage permissions on Android?.
5. USB Port Issues
The USB port may have connectivity problems.
Solution:
Try a different USB port on your phone/computer
Avoid USB hubs - connect directly
Clean the USB port if dusty
6. TF Card Not Inserted
The device requires a TF card to function as external storage.
Solution:
Insert a formatted TF card (exFAT or NTFS)
Ensure the card clicks into place
Check that the REC LED lights up green
7. App Needs Restart
Sometimes the app state becomes stale.
Solution:
Force close RecDual Link app
Disconnect the RecDual Dongle
Wait 5 seconds
Reconnect the device
Reopen the app
8. Device Driver Issues (Windows)
Windows may need to recognize the device.
Solution:
Open Device Manager
Look for any devices with warning icons
Right-click and select Update driver
Or try unplugging and replugging the device
Advanced Troubleshooting¶
Check if Device is Recognized by System
Android:
Go to Settings > Storage
Look for external storage or USB drive
If visible, the device is connected but app may need reauthorization
Windows:
Open File Explorer
Look for a new drive (e.g., E:, F:)
If visible, the device is connected - try rebinding in the app
Try Another Device
If possible, test your RecDual Dongle with:
A different phone
A Windows computer
A different USB cable
This helps identify whether the issue is with the phone, cable, or RecDual Dongle itself.
