Understanding Guest Mode vs Activated Mode

RecDual Link App operates in two modes: Guest Mode and Activated Mode. This article explains the differences and how to get the most from your RecDual Dongle.

What is Guest Mode?

Guest Mode is the default state when you first install RecDual Link without entering a Serial Number. It provides limited functionality for basic device interaction.

Guest Mode Limitations:

  • Can only view basic connection status

  • Cannot play back recorded videos

  • Cannot apply configuration changes

  • Cannot update firmware

  • Cannot access advanced features

Guest Mode is useful for:

  • Quickly checking if your device connects properly

  • Initial testing before full activation

What is Activated Mode?

Activated Mode unlocks all features of RecDual Link after you enter your device’s Serial Number (SN) and complete cloud verification.

Activated Mode Features:

  • Full video playback and streaming

  • Apply and save device configurations

  • One-click firmware updates

  • Storage management and monitoring

  • All advanced features

How to Activate

To switch from Guest Mode to Activated Mode:

  1. Open RecDual Link App

  2. Go to the activation screen

  3. Enter your 10-digit Serial Number (SN)

    • Found on the bottom of your RecDual Dongle

    • Or on the product packaging

  4. Tap Activate Now

  5. Wait for cloud verification

  6. Activation complete!

For detailed instructions, see How to activate RecDual Link App?.

Offline Grace Period

After activation, you enjoy a 7-day (168 hours) offline grace period:

  • Use all activated features without internet

  • Timer starts from your last successful cloud verification

  • Dashboard shows remaining offline time

What happens after 7 days offline?

  • App automatically returns to Guest Mode

  • Features become restricted

  • Simply connect to internet to re-verify and restore activated status

Note

Your activation is not lost - just reconnect to internet and the app will verify automatically.

Multi-Device Authorization

Each Serial Number supports activation on up to 5 different devices (phones/computers):

  • Activate on your phone, tablet, and computer

  • Share with family members if needed

  • Manage authorized devices from app settings

If you reach the 5-device limit, you must deactivate one device before adding a new one. See How to manage multiple devices?.

Why Require Activation?

The activation system:

  • Validates ownership: Confirms you have a genuine RecDual Dongle

  • Enables cloud services: Firmware updates and future features

  • Prevents unauthorized use: Protects against counterfeits

  • Provides support: Registered devices can receive better support

Returning to Guest Mode

Your app will return to Guest Mode if:

  • You never activated (stayed in Guest Mode)

  • Offline for more than 7 days

  • You manually deactivated authorization

To restore Activated Mode:

  1. Connect to internet

  2. Open RecDual Link App

  3. Cloud verification happens automatically

  4. Or re-enter your Serial Number if deactivated
