File size limitations with ClonerAlliance UHD Halo

This article explains the file size limits that apply when recording with the ClonerAlliance UHD Halo, including both file system constraints and OSD settings.

File System Limits

The maximum file size is determined by the file system of your storage device:

File System

Maximum Single File Size

FAT32

4 GB

exFAT

32 GB

NTFS

32 GB

Note

The UHD Halo enforces a maximum single file size of 32 GB, regardless of the file system. For files larger than 32 GB, automatic segmentation will occur.

OSD File Size Setting

The File Size option under MenuRecord Settings controls when automatic file splitting occurs. See Why does the recorded file split into segments on ClonerAlliance UHD Halo for the full list of available options.

Setting the File Size to Unlimited allows recordings up to 32 GB on exFAT or NTFS storage devices.

Storage Capacity Estimates

The following table provides approximate recording durations based on common recording modes and a given storage capacity:

Recording Mode

Bitrate

Approximate Duration per 128 GB

4K@60fps

50 Mbps

~5.7 hours

4K@30fps

32 Mbps

~8.9 hours

1080p@60fps

24 Mbps

~11.9 hours

1080p@30fps

16 Mbps

~17.8 hours

Recommendations

  • Use a storage device formatted as exFAT for the best balance of compatibility and file size support.

  • Set File Size to Unlimited to minimize file splitting during long recording sessions.

  • For 4K@60fps recording, prepare adequate storage capacity to avoid running out of space mid-recording.
