Storage device formatting guide for ClonerAlliance UHD Halo¶
This guide explains how to properly format storage devices for use with the ClonerAlliance UHD Halo.
Recommended File System¶
File System |
Support |
Notes |
|---|---|---|
exFAT |
Best |
Recommended for maximum compatibility |
NTFS |
Yes |
Good compatibility, larger file support |
FAT32 |
Yes |
Limited to 4GB per file — not ideal for 4K |
Note
exFAT is the recommended file system for the best compatibility and performance. FAT32 has a 4GB file size limit, which may cause issues during long 4K recordings.
Partition Table¶
Both GPT and MBR partition tables are supported.
Storage Capacity Recommendations¶
Recording Mode |
Recommended Minimum Capacity |
|---|---|
4K@60fps (50 Mbps) |
128 GB or higher |
4K@30fps (32 Mbps) |
128 GB or higher |
1080p@60fps (16 Mbps) |
64 GB or higher |
1080p@30fps (8 Mbps) |
32 GB or higher |
For long recording sessions, use a larger capacity storage device to avoid running out of space.
How to Format on Windows¶
Connect the USB storage device or insert the TF card (using a card reader) to your Windows PC.
Open File Explorer and locate the storage device.
Right-click on the drive and select Format.
Set the File system to exFAT.
Check Quick format for faster formatting.
Click Start to begin formatting.
Confirm the format when prompted. All existing data on the device will be erased.
How to Format on Mac¶
Connect the USB storage device or insert the TF card (using a card reader) to your Mac.
Open Disk Utility (Applications → Utilities → Disk Utility).
Select the storage device in the left sidebar.
Click Erase.
Set the Format to exFAT and enter a name for the device.
Click Erase to begin formatting. All existing data on the device will be erased.
Important Notes¶
Formatting erases all data on the storage device. Back up any important files before formatting.
If the UHD Halo does not recognize a storage device, try reformatting it to exFAT.
For 4K@60fps recording at high bitrates, use a USB 3.0 device or a high-speed TF card (U3 / V30 or higher) to ensure stable recording performance.
TF cards should be inserted directly into the UHD Halo’s TF card slot — no adapter is needed.
