How Does Loop Recording Work on RecDual Dongle?

Loop recording allows RecDual Dongle to record continuously by automatically overwriting the oldest files when storage becomes full.

What is Loop Recording?

Loop recording is a feature that:

  • Enables continuous recording without manual intervention

  • Automatically deletes the oldest files when TF card is full

  • Maintains always-recording capability

  • Useful for monitoring and surveillance applications

How It Works

Normal Recording:

  1. Recording fills up the TF card

  2. When full, recording stops (REC LED turns solid blue)

  3. You must manually delete files to continue

With Loop Recording Enabled:

  1. Recording fills up the TF card

  2. When full, oldest files are automatically deleted

  3. Recording continues without interruption

  4. Newest footage is always preserved

Enabling Loop Recording

Loop recording is configured through the RecDual Link App:

  1. Connect RecDual Dongle to your device

  2. Open RecDual Link App

  3. Go to device configuration

  4. Enable Loop Recording option

  5. Save settings

See how-to-use-loop-recording-settings-recdual-link for detailed instructions.

Use Cases

Ideal for:

  • Continuous monitoring

  • Long-duration surveillance

  • Dash cam style recording

  • Background recording for extended events

When NOT to use:

  • When all recordings are equally important

  • When you need to keep all footage

  • For archival recording

Important Considerations

Data Loss Warning:

Warning

Loop recording automatically deletes old files. Important recordings will be lost if not backed up.

Best Practices:

  1. Backup important files regularly

  2. Use a large capacity TF card to maximize retention

  3. Set appropriate file segment length if configurable

  4. Check recordings regularly and export important ones

Storage and Retention

Approximate retention times at 1080p@60fps:

Card Size

Approx. Retention

64GB

~5-7 hours

128GB

~10-14 hours

256GB

Larger cards = longer retention before overwrite

LED Behavior

With loop recording enabled:

  • REC LED stays blinking green (recording)

  • LED does not turn blue when “full”

  • Recording continues seamlessly

Tips

  1. Use the largest card practical for maximum retention

  2. Backup regularly if recordings may be important

  3. Test the feature before critical use

  4. Monitor storage in RecDual Link App
