Why is My Device Speaker Not Working During Recording?¶
When recording from your mobile device or laptop via Type-C DP, the device’s built-in speaker stops working. This is normal behavior caused by DisplayPort audio routing.
Why This Happens¶
Technical Explanation:
Type-C DP (DisplayPort) connection carries both video and audio
Your device recognizes RecDual Dongle as an external display with audio
Audio is automatically routed to the external output (DP)
The internal speaker is disabled as a standard behavior
This is NOT:
A malfunction
A bug in RecDual Dongle
A problem with your device
It’s how DisplayPort connections are designed to work.
Audio is Still Being Recorded¶
Important: Even though you can’t hear audio from your device speaker:
Audio IS being recorded to the video file
Your recordings will have full audio
Only real-time playback through the speaker is affected
How to Hear Audio During Recording¶
Method 1: Connect Headphones to AUX
Plug headphones into RecDual Dongle’s AUX port
Audio plays through your headphones
Monitor audio while recording
Method 2: Use HDMI Passthrough
Connect HDMI OUT to a TV or monitor with speakers
Audio plays through the TV’s speakers
Good for shared listening
Which Devices Are Affected?¶
Affected (Type-C DP connection):
Smartphones connected via Type-C DP IN
Tablets connected via Type-C DP IN
Laptops connected via Type-C DP IN
Not Affected (HDMI connection):
HDMI sources (gaming consoles, etc.)
These have separate audio systems
Use HDMI passthrough for audio output
After Recording¶
When you disconnect from RecDual Dongle:
Device speaker resumes normal operation
Audio routing returns to internal speakers
No permanent changes to audio settings
This Only Affects Recording Mode¶
When RecDual Dongle is in storage mode (recording stopped):
Type-C connection is for data only
Speaker behavior may vary by device
Audio routing returns to normal
